Lake Wörth

Work may come first, but the lake’s a close second. Is your conference taking place in Klagenfurt or Velden? Then you can count yourself lucky – between them lies idyllic Lake Wörth. With a length of 16.5km and a width of 1.7km, it is Carinthia’s largest lake. And the region’s pleasant climate ensures that Lake Wörth with its turquoise waters is one of the warmest Alpine lakes.

Even if you’ve never visited before, the region might still seem familiar to you. Lake Wörth with its small, picturesque villages is a prime location for movie and television productions. One of the best known and loved German-language television series «Ein Schloss am Wörthersee» (A Castle by Lake Wörth) was filmed at Velden Castle. Since the 1950s, several productions have been made here.

The small towns and villages around Lake Wörth come into their own for events of all kinds. Whether it’s the ATP tennis tournament in Pörtschach, the Ironman Triathlon (which starts in Klagenfurt), the ‘Kärnten läuft’ run or the boat procession dedicated to the Virgin Mary – there’s always something happening on and around Lake Wörth.
